FAQs

Do I need a fishing licence?

Normally YES. In NSW, all participants aged 18 and over require a valid NSW Recreational Fishing Licence.

However that is not need when you come out with Fishing with a Local as we are a registered Charter Fishing Company.

Where do we meet and at what time?

Meeting locations vary depending on conditions and your booking.

Exact meeting details and start times are confirmed during booking.

Can I keep the Mulloway I catch?

Yes—if it meets legal size and bag limits. Mulloway (Jewfish) are a prized species, and we strongly encourage responsible decisions, especially with larger breeding fish.

Our guides will always advise on the best option, including catch and release for sustainability where appropriate.

What are the size and bag limits?

All fishing is conducted in line with NSW fisheries regulations, including:

  • Minimum legal sizes

  • Daily bag limits

  • Protected species rules

We brief all participants on the day to ensure full compliance and responsible fishing practices.

What fish species are typically caught on a South Coast experience?

Depending on conditions and season, you may encounter:

  • Flathead

  • Australian Salmon

  • Snapper (Pink Snapper)

  • Mulloway (Jewfish)

  • Tailor

  • Bream

Each session is tailored to give your group the best chance of success based on conditions.

What form do I need to complete?

All participants complete a indemnity form, which includes:

  • Basic contact details

For corporate and government groups, we can also accommodate organisation-specific compliance requirements.

  • Group ability and goals

This ensures every session is safe, productive, and tailored.

When does the clock ‘start’ and ‘finish’ on a session?

Your session time begins at the agreed meeting time and concludes at the scheduled finish time.

We recommend arriving 10–15 minutes early to maximise your experience.

I’m not as fit as I used to be—can I still book a session?

Absolutely.

We design sessions to suit a wide range of fitness levels. Many locations:

  • Require minimal walking

Why can’t you fish while guiding?

Our focus is entirely on your experience and success.

By not fishing, your guide can:

  • Monitor safety and conditions

  • Maximise your chances of catching fish

Your results are our priority.
