A simple idea with powerful results — helping people reconnect, rebuild, and move forward through guided NSW South Coast beach fishing experiences.
At Fishing With A Local, our RODS Program (Reel Opportunities for Development & Support) uses the power of fishing to help people reconnect, rebuild, and move forward.

Led by experienced local guide George, the program is about more than just catching fish — it’s about helping people feel capable, connected, and confident again.
George is passionate about the unique, therapeutic benefits of fishing. Research is now starting to recognise and appreciate the profound impact on our mental health. From the connection to nature, reduction of stress and anxiety, to the boosting of serotonin levels (the brain chemical that regulate mood), then there’s the dopamine boost (the bodies reward hormone), to name but a few benefits.
We create a safe and welcoming space where participants are supported every step of the way, with real mentorship and practical guidance.
The RODS program helps people develop a lifelong skill while improving mental health, reducing stress, and creating a sense of purpose.
Personal Growth – Personal Resilience – Balanced Lifestyle – Life Skills such as Responsibility, Planning and Environment Care are integrated throughout the course.
Fishing isn’t just a hobby — it’s a way to reset, reconnect, and move forward.
Fishing naturally slows things down. It builds patience, focus, and connection — not just to the ocean, but to yourself.
Through guided sessions on the NSW South Coast, participants learn real fishing skills while experiencing the proven mental health benefits of time outdoors, fresh air, connection to country, and meaningful activity.
Whether it’s casting a line for the first time or chasing bigger fish with advanced techniques, every session is designed to support personal growth at your own pace.
It creates space to think, breathe, and reset — while learning real skills and building confidence along the way.
