Cultural Fishing

Fish the local waters. Discover culture. Taste Country.

Join Gumarra and Fishing with a Local for an unforgettable three-hour, hands-on cultural fishing experience on Dharawal Country.

Begin with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony before learning about traditional fishing equipment, coastal safety and the stories of this place. Guided by local knowledge holders, you’ll walk to the beach to learn the pipi dance, watch a beach-worming demonstration and use locally gathered bait to fish for species such as sand whiting, bream, flathead, mullet, dart and salmon.

Connect with Country as local guides share stories, knowledge, and traditional practices. Learn where to find pippies, explore the flavours of the bush, then cook and enjoy what you catch.

The experience finishes at the picnic area, where you’ll cook and enjoy your catch—including fresh pipis—while discovering native bush tucker, local wildlife and the enduring cultural practices of the Dharawal and Yuin Nations.

Fish the local waters, search for fresh pippies, and discover native bush tucker on an unforgettable hands-on experience with Gumarra and Fishing with a Local.

Come for the fishing. Stay for the culture. Taste the experience.
